More on the workshop, Portraits of Queer GV:
From Nov 2025 to Jan 2026 workshops will be held across a variety of locations throughout the GV and surrounds to create as many portraits as possible, which will then be displayed in exhibitions, and collated into a book. The goal of the workshops is to end up with hundreds of portraits celebrating diversity, showing that not all LGBTIQA+ people are the same. Participants will be aided in disguising their identity if participants would prefer to remain anonymous when creating their portrait.
More on the artist – Ruby Wyatt-Carter:
Ruby has volunteered as the Artistic Director of the OUT in the OPEN festival for the past three years, managing projects and running arts workshops with diverse communities. They have worked in an art gallery in Nathalia for 6 years curating exhibitions, creating posters, managing the website and assisting with live music events. In 2024, their artwork was published in ‘OUT-SIDE: Queer Words and Art from Regional Victoria’, and they created the design behind one of Shepparton’s iconic cows for the Moooving Art Herd, ‘Pride Cow’. This was the first pride-themed cow, painted with peacock feathers with colours from over 20 different pride flags. In 2025 Ruby has exhibited their work as part of the Shepparton Festival, with an installation of their curated community work ‘Colour My World’ at Stellar Café in central Shepparton and their Cardboard Orchestra most recently. In addition to being an artist, musician, and guitar teacher, Ruby is currently studying Cert IV Community Services.
