SUMMARY:Upcoming Exhibitions: Portraits of Queer GV & The Pieces That Made Me
DESCRIPTION:Community Exhibition: Portraits of Queer GV\nWhen? June 25 – 15 July\nPortraits of Queer GV (Greater Victoria) is a collection of self-portraits that were created during workshops that took place between November 2025 and January 2026. The locations include Shepparton\, Traralgon\, Sale\, Wodonga\, Wangaratta\, Woodend\, Bendigo\, Maryborough and Geelong. The majority of sessions were with established pride youth groups. The workshops\, which were led by Moira Shire artist Ruby Wyatt-Carter\, prompted participants to consider different aspects of their identity as they were creating their portraits. The portraits were dominantly made using paper collage.\nThis project was funded by Midsummer’s Regional Arts Program and supported by Goulburn Valley Pride \nPersonal Exhibition: The Pieces That Made Me\nWhen? 25 June- 20 July\nA self portrait contains so much story and soul of the artist that made it. From little pieces of paper that would otherwise be tossed away\, Ruby has crafted their personal experiences into a story of pain and resilience\, then healing and thriving. Each artwork has been created using cardboard to elevate the main subject of the work\, paper collage to create the bulk of the image\, then watercolour and posca pens for the finer details.

Think BIG coffee\, BIG breaky\, BOLD community connection\, and those BRIGHT Sunday morning vibes that you know and love at the venue on the lake\, Elsewhere at SAM! 🙌 Your ticket entitles you to ONE ‘big’ food item (e.g. “eggs your way” plus 2 sides) and ONE ‘bold’ beverage (e.g. coffee\, tea\, juice). \nAll the details:\n📅 Sunday 5th Jul 2026 \n⌚ 10.30am – 12.30pm \n📍 Elsewhere at SAM\, located within the Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) Level 1\, 530 Wyndham Street\, Shepparton. \n🌈 This is a ticketed event – TICKETS ON SALE NOW \nIf you have any access needs\, you can call the cafe number (03 4804 5023) upon your arrival at the Museum front entrance\, and they can provide accessible entry via a lift. \nFurther details and accessibility information:\n\nSAM has accessible parking on site\, near the building and concrete paths that lead up to the building. The SAM building sits alongside a busy main road and the Shepparton Lake\, so there can be some outdoor noise when arriving at the venue\, before heading inside. If walking\, the pedestrian crossing at KFC at the north end of the lake is recommended. If driving or being dropped off\, there are parks near SAM at the south end of the lake. Public buses do not run on Sundays.\nSAM has an all gender and all accessible bathroom on level one\, the same level as the cafe. All bathrooms are outside of the cafe\, in the gallery\, very close to the cafe entrance within the SAM building.\nThere is an accessible entrance into the building and also a lift. The main entrance door is glass\, and it rotates. The accessible entrance is next to it.\nThe Elsewhere at SAM café has inside and outside seating and is often quite busy\, so noise levels will be high. SAM the gallery\, is a quieter space. Join us in 2026 and celebrate all things “homegrown and glowing”!\nCarnival Day is our BIG event – a FREE celebration for the whole family in the heart of Shepparton. Carnival Day brings together live music\, wonderful entertainment\, market stalls\, pride merchandise to grab\, information and services\, food trucks and so much more. Bring along the whole family\, furry friends welcome too and enjoy this annual celebration of queer joy. Relax the day away enjoy the tunes under the shady trees of Queens Gardens\, participate in activities for all ages.\nLGBTIQA+ community\, allies\, friends\, and families are all welcome to attend and enjoy the event with us.\nHere’s the details: 10.00am – 3.00pm Saturday 7th November 2026 Queens Gardens\, Shepparton (cnr. Wyndham & Nixon Streets) All welcome Furry friends welcome – leads required! (Applications for the dog show opening soon!)\nCheck out our stallholders attending here (TBC): https://gvpride.org/stallholders/\n\nAccessibility and further details:\n• The venue of Queens Gardens has sealed paths surrounding three sides and through the space. The remainder of the surfaces are grass. Marquees surround the outside of the gardens but will not be on paths. There will not be sealed path access to all stall holders.\n• Onsite there is an all accessible\, all gender bathroom. In addition\, there are two other all gender bathrooms. At the event there may also be two portaloos that require a person to step up to use them.\n• There is lots of traffic moving along two of the streets the garden sits between\, and the space is not fenced. There will be lots of people\, some animals on leads\, or restrained\, and live music on stage between the hours of the event. The Gardens is a vast space and there are spaces that offer less noise onsite.\n• There are some tables and chairs provided near the food trucks. We suggest bringing a picnic rug to sit on and enjoy the day.\n• There will be an information tent on-site with volunteers always present for support or questions. Volunteers will also be in other locations within the Queens Gardens. All volunteers will have an OUTintheOPEN barnded t-shirt and a rainbow lanyard on them.\n• There will be local LLO (LGBTIQA+ liaison Officer’s) Victoria Police staff on site at this event to support our LGBTIQA+ community.\n• Animals on leads or restrained are welcome at this event.
