Our Carnival Day line-up will include…
BEC SANDRIDGE

Discovering Bec Sandridge feels like being let in on a secret. A queer-pop shapeshifter with sharp angles, step-down black-and-white hair, and a voice somewhere between David Byrne and Kate Bush, Sandridge has been bending pop into performance art for over a decade. Her new single Always A Fan—co-produced with Nick Zaharias (MAY-A, The Buoys)—is the first from her upcoming album Happy Futures, featuring collaborators like Tony Buchen (G Flip, Smashing Pumpkins), Dave Jenkins Jr (Daniel Johns, Vera Blue, and Grammy-winner Cian Riordan (St Vincent, Lana Del Rey).
She’s supported Mitski, St. Vincent, Tegan and Sara, Ladyhawke, Kimbra, Yungblud; played Reeperbahn, World Pride, Falls Festival; and appeared on The L Word, Q+A, and at Sydney Opera House. Sandridge’s bold blend of theatre, fuzz pedals, and queer angst earned her Triple J rotation, an ISC finalist nod, and a sold-out 2024 Great Southern Nights show—the first in the series to do so.
Pop—bent, broken, and reassembled into something radically her own.

Scarlet Dahlias are a grunge/dream pop duo who are playing their first shows during Out In the Open Festival, 2024. Ash (they/them) plays guitar and sings, Evey (she/her) plays drums and sings occasionally. It’s like queer White Stripes but sadder. Some folks say the songs kinda sound like Neil Young or Mazzy Star. You decide – come see for yourself!
Scarlet Dahlias have been slowly writing and recording music for nearly two years but they’ve never played live. They’ve released a four track demo called “mercury rx” that is available on all streaming platforms and finally, they are excited to bring their unique blend of noisy ethereal pop to local Out in the Open audiences.
Ash is a school teacher and Evey runs an op shop. On weekends, they play music and call themselves Scarlet Dahlias.
