If you support a partner, relative, friend, or chosen family member living with a medical condition, disability, mental illness, or age-related frailty, you may be a carer — even if you don’t think of yourself as one.
Carer Gateway is an Australian Government initiative that recognises the diverse experiences of LGBTIQA+ carers and offers free, inclusive support to help you manage daily challenges, reduce stress and improve your wellbeing. This includes:
- Counselling to help manage stress and emotional challenges
- Respite care to give you a break
- Peer support groups to connect with other carers who understand
- Coaching to build personal strategies for managing your caring role
- Tailored support packages for practical help with everyday life
Caring for someone can be rewarding, but it can also be emotionally and physically demanding. Carer Gateway provides free, inclusive tailored support designed to care for your wellbeing – emotionally, mentally and practically – so you can keep caring without losing yourself in the process. Give Carer Gateway a call on 1800 422 737 (Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm) or visit carergateway.gov.au to learn more.
